Giants Fans Edge Jets Fans In Thriller at the First Annual Jets Fans vs. Giants Fans Scrimmage for Men's Health Awareness

QUEENS, NY – November 4, 2013 – Sean C., the team captain and quarterback for the Giants Fans team, called his own number and sprinted to the end zone for an 80 yard touchdown, with just over 2 minutes remaining to seal it for his squad as the Giants Fans defeated the Jets Fans 40-32 in the First Annual Jets Fans vs Giants Fans Flag Football Scrimmage for Men’s Health on Sunday morning at Roy Wilkins Southern Queens Park this past Sunday in Jamaica, Queens.

"It's a tremendous victory," Sean said. “We got down early, but our guys never gave up. We just kept plugging away. My teammates did a hell of a job throughout the whole game, offensively and defensively." Sean C. finished the game with a total 5 touchdowns, 2 on the ground and 3 through the air, including 2 spectacular on-target touchdown throws to wide receiver Devin M.

The Jets Fans got off to a hot start with the stellar play of Tyriek W., team captain and quarterback for the Jets Fans team, who broke off a long touchdown run followed by an interception deep in Giants Fans territory, and another scramble for a touchdown, putting the Jets Fans up 16 to nothing early. The Giants Fans, however, rallied back late in the first half to close the gap and went into halftime down 20-24. The Giants Fans then came out with a vengeance in the second half going up 34-24, before a Jets Fans’ touchdown pass from Tyriek W. to receiver Mo S. and a successful 2 point conversion catch by the center, Boxer, made it 34-32 with just over 2 minutes remaining.

On the subsequent possesion, Sean C. found a hole in the Jets Fans defense en route to an 80 yard score which would put the game out of reach for the Jets Fans. The Jets Fans ran the 2 minute drill reaching the Giants Fans’ 46-yard line before turning the ball over on downs, which enabled the Giants Fans to kneel down on the ball and run the clock out.

“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t get the win,” said Tyriek W. “I am extremely proud of the effort our team gave on both sides of the ball, but I have to hand it the guys on the other sideline as well for their marvelous performance. We’ll get them next time.” Tyriek W. ended his day with 2 rushing touchdowns, along with 2 touchdown lobs to each of his starting receivers, Mo S. and Les L., and 3 total interceptions on defense.

The event was the first by the Queens Athletic Federation, premiering its QFL brand of flag football, and kicking off its official preseason activities. The next event, scheduled to take place this Sunday at 10am at Roy Wilkins Southern Queens Park, is the QFL Free Agent Combine, where players who wish to join the league as free agents, can participate in various drills and record their statistics in the hopes of being acquired by a team captain to play for a team.
