The Giants Fans represented theNew York Football Giants well again this year with another scintillating last second victory 27-25 against the Jets Fans in the Second Annual Giants Fans vs. Jets Fans Scrimmage for Men's Health.
"We are happy to get the win on behalf of all New York Giants fans and in support of men's health" said Giants Fans team captain Brian Payton, who is also the team captain of last year's Southeast Division Champions, the Jamaica Saints, "We were able to hold back the tremendous surge by the Jets fans at the end there and come away with the victory."
Payton finished the game with 8/17 passing for 153 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions, to go along with 2 runs for 38 yards and a tackle and an interception on defense.
The Giants fans, who came in as the reigning champions of this game, with their 40-32 win to kick off last season, capitalized on an early interception on a tipped pass to go up 7-0 on a 17 yard toss from Payton to Danzel Montgomery - one of three touchdowns hauled in by Montgomery on the day. The Jets fans would respond with a touchdown drive of their own to end the first half, with Dominick Mangine connecting with Sherwin Kendall to close the gap to 7-6 at the half.
The second half also began at a slow pace and after two quick touchdowns by the Giants Fans, including a 20 yard pass from Mohammed Faiq to Mike Gopie, the game seemed out of reach for the Jets Fans at 19-6. With under three minutes to go, a scoring bonanza would commence starting with an Ortiz 5 yard toss to Sudolsky, which made it 19-12. After the Jets Fans defense forced a quick turnover on downs, Ortiz would find Bjorn Oliver for a 25 yard touchdown catch and run, and after a successful one point conversion, all of a sudden the game was tied at 19 with a little over a minute remaining.
Not satisfied with going into overtime, the Giants Fans went for the win with a 36 yard bomb from Payton to Montgomery and successful 2 point conversion made it 27-19 with 3 seconds remaining in the game. Needing a miracle, the Jets Fans would benefit from a pass interference call on a hail mary throw, giving them the ball at the Giants Fans' 20 yard line. With the clock turned off, Ortiz would find Oliver again in the corner of the end zone on a spectacular diving catch for a touchdown. However, on the ensuing two point attempt, Ortiz could not find an open man and helplessly watched as the ball bounced off the fingerips of John Sudolsky, sealing the victory for the Giants Fans for the second straight year.
"It was definitely an exciting game," said Christian Ortiz, captain of the Jets Fans. "I'm proud of the team for not packing it in when we were down two scores and continuing to fight. We support the Movember cause and call for all men everywhere to fight the good fight against cancer."
Ortiz finished with 6 of 12 passing, 95 yards, 3 touchdowns and one interception, along with 3 runs for 42 yards.BOX SCORE
