BK Storm continued their winning ways en route to a 20-0 defensive gem against the Jamaica Saints to advance the Southern Conference championship game against the Stallions next week.
"I'm proud of my guys for the defensive intensity they showed all game," said BK Storm team captain Marvin Gumbs, "The Saints were great on offense all year and we were able to shut them down. We're looking forward to facing the Stallions again next week."
This game was a defensive battle the whole way through, as both of these teams offensive' firepower was stymied by their stingy defenses. The first drive of the game saw Saints' WR/DB James Harvey intercept last week's offensive player of the week, Rob Crawford in Storm territory. However, the Saints were unable to take advantage of their good starting field position and were stopped at the goal line. Crawford would then engineer a brilliant 94 yard touchdown drive concluding with a 31 yard bomb to RB Paris Crawford. The Saints would again march into Storm Territory, only to run out of time when QB Christian Ortiz took a sack by Storm DT Tim, one of 5 sacks on the day, a QFL Flag Football single game record. At this point it was still a close game, 6-0 in favor of BK.
The second half started with a 3 and out for the Saints and the Storm would respond with another touchdown when Crawford pulled it down and ran it in from 9 yards out. The Saints would again go down the field into BK territory, all the way to the 27 yard line, when Ortiz, who had been sacked 3 times on the drive, threw a crushing interception to Storm WR/DB Kenny Wall to all but seal the game for the Storm, who would go on to score again on the game's final play on another Crawford connection, as Rob would find Paris on a 35 yard touchdown toss.
"It just wasn't our day," said Saints' team captain Brian Payton, "Our defense was brilliant, but our offense just could not capitalize on those opportunities against their defense. It's a dissapointing way to end our season, but I want to thank the guys for batlling with me all season long and we can't wait to return next year, better than ever."
Payton finished the game with 4 catches for 18 yards and 5 tackles on defense.
BK Storm will move on and face their division rivals, the Southwest Division Champs, Stallions (6-2) in the Southern Conference Championship game on May 4th at 3:15pm, in what will be their second matchup in 3 weeks. The Storm previously defeated the Stallions 30-12 in Week 8.BOX SCORE
