The Storm, who had previously seen defensive success against Ball So Hard University in a 14-12 win earlier this season, were on their heels from early on, giving up a 58 yard touchdown from league MVP Scott Gadsden to Offensive Player of the year WR Shane Phillips. After a 3 and out and a declared punt, BSHU drove deep into Storm Territory but were stopped on 4th and goal when Gadsden failed to connect with WR Malcolm Mercer. The Storm behind QB Rob Crawford would engineer an 11 play, 89 yard touchdown drive which culminated in a 17 yard connection to RB/S Prince Cherry to give the Storm the lead going into halftime, 8-6.
On their first possession of the second half, Gadsden would find the football off a richochet interception, which gave BSHU the ball with good field position.Unfortunately, Gadsden would be injured on the play and could not play in the ensuing offensive possesion. Without their MVP quarterback, BSHU was unable to capitalize off the turnover and turned the ball right back over as the replacement QB Shane Phillips could not escape the grasp of Lemonte Attles for a 4th down sack and a turnover on downs. This led to a momentum shift in the game, as Crawford would march the team down the field, finding WR Darren for a 7 yard score to make it 16-6.
Gadsden would return to the game to hopefully lead his team back and was sucessful at getting them into Storm territory, but perhaps feeling the effects of the injury, he would throw a rare interception to Storm RB/S Prince Cherry. After the turnover and a penalty, which backed the Storm up to their own 10, Crawford would launch a bomb to WR Andre Newsome for 84 yards and then two plays later a 6 yard touchdown pass to Tarell Griffin to ice the game and the title for the Storm.
"We wish we could have had this one back," said designated captain of BSHU Scott Gadsden, "We made too many mistakes and allowed the momentum to turn against us. Congratulations to the champs, they deserve it. I am still happy with the success our team had all year long, it's just a shame we couldn't bring that trophy home. We hope the Storm don't get too comfortable with their title, because we are going to work hard and take it next year."
Gasden finished the game 8 of 19 for 192 yards, one touchdown, one interception to go along with an interception of his own and a tackle on defense.
This game concludes the inaugural season of the Queens Athetlic Federation's brand of QFL Flag Football that began back in November with the Giants Fans vs Jets Fans Scrimmage for Men's Health.
"We saw a great deal of athleticism, heart and sportsmanship this year," said Commissioner and CEO of the Queens Athletic Federation, Paul Persaud, "A big thank you goes out to all the men that participated this season, the fans who came to enjoy our games and also to all of the people who helped behind the scenes to make this league a success this season and into the future."
