Saints Fall in Hard Fought Battle for #1 Seed in the South

Week 7’s Game of the Week was one of those matchups you dream of. Two 5-1 teams, major playoff implications, 2 rock solid defenses going all in for the top spot in the conference. In a tough hard fought contest, the Stallions emerged victorious over the Jamaica Saints 18-13 and in sole possesion of the conference #1 seed, which comes with a first round bye in the playoffs. “There was no doubt about it,” said Stallions captain Bernard May, “We had to fight hard to earn this victory, the Saints are a tremendous football team and they put up a hell of a fight against us. I am extremely proud of my guys and what we were able to accomplish this season.” May went 20 of 30 for 261 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception and recorded 6 tackles on defense. The Saints came ready to play. The Stallions had outscored their last 3 opponents by a combined 124-0, and the Saints were not about to let them run roughshod as they are accustomed to. The Saints defense dominated the first half, generating 2 sacks and a interception by WR/S Brian Jackson, which set them up in good field position for QB Christian Ortiz to find Naveed Qureshi for a 10 yard score, but missed a field goal, which set up a 17 yard TD strike form May to RB Corey Dildy for the Stallions to pull the Stallions closer 6-7 at the half. The game continued to be intense in the second half, as neither team would let up. The Stallions would go on to add a 10 yard TD catch by WR Mike Kenner after a Saints’ turnover on downs, and penalties helped the Saints get down the field and regain the lead off an 8 yard TD grab by Saints’ captain Brian Payton. On the ensuing possession, May would find RB Sherwin Kendall, who would slash and dash to the end zone on a 38 yard TD, which would prove to be the game winner. “Our team is dissapointed that we couldn’t come away with a win today,” said Brian Payton, captain of the Jamaica Saints (5-2), “but we learned a lot from this game and we plan to see the Stallions again in the playoffs and get the W when there’s even more on the line.” The Saints will meet BK Storm (3-4) in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, with the winner to meet the Stallions in the conference round..
