Don't give the Stallions motivation because they will eat it for lunch. That's what happened this past Sunday as the Stallions feasted on 5 interceptions by Cobras' QB Ezra and returned all the extra helpings to the house in a 52-0 domination of the King Cobras in a game that was shortened at halftime.
"We were hungry," said Stallions captain Bernard May, "We took advantage of our opportunities and took care of business early. We saw a chance to take sole possession of the number one seed next week, so we were not going to let this game get in the way of our path to the championship."
May excelled on offense and defense, going 4 of 4 for 108 yards, 2 touchdowns and taking 2 interceptions and returning them for touchdowns, earning this week's Defensive Player of the Week honors.
This one was a no contest from the beginning as the Stallions drove down the field and scored immediately on a 32 yard strike from May to RB Corey DIldy. The defense would take over from there, as the offense did not see the field again until late in the first half, ending four consecutive King Cobra drives with interceptions returned for touchdowns. Dildy would see the end zone again, but not on offense as he returned a pick 68 yards to the house. The Stallions were able to get the ball back on offense after a four and out by QB Mackenzie Williams, and added insult to injury with a 30 yard lob to Bjorn Oliver for his 8th touchdown of the season, best in the league amongst wide receivers.RB/LB Chuck Browne ended scoring with yet another interception returned for a touchdown. Even though the Cobras wanted to continue play in the second half, the referees thought it best to end the game in the interest of player safety as this one was well out of hand.
"We are embarrassed by our defeat and our performance on the field today," said Jeffrey Jean, co captain of the King Cobras, "but we are determined to get things right in time for the playoffs. We still control our own destiny."
The King Cobras can clinch the Northeast division with a win vs. BSHU or an Average Joe's loss, while the Stallions (5-1) will enter into game with major playoff implications against the Saints (5-1), the Southeast Division Champs, in a game that will determine the #1 seed in the Southern Conference which comes along with a first round bye.BOX SCORE
